Custom Designed Fine Jewelry

White Mountain Jewelers has brought state-of-the-art technology to Show Low and Pinetop. We are one of the most progressive jewelers in our state. One of the many things we can do with our leading edge technology is design and fabricate complex and intricate custom-designed jewelry. Sometimes older technology has been combined with new to create even more opportunities. In the jewelry industry, lost wax casting has been around for centuries. Lathes have been available to the machining industry for decades. Personal computers have been in nearly all small businesses for a decade or so. But recently allthree of these technologies have been combined and configured for use in the jewelry industry and the results are breathtaking. Peter, an international award winning designer, can design jewelry on the computer using either of two software packages. Designs done in this manner can be more detailed and versatile than older methods. |
Custom designing starts with a desire for beautiful jewelry. Whether you are taking diamonds or other gemstones from your jewelry and putting them into a new piece of jewelry or starting from scratch with an image, White Mountain Jewelers is here to help you. Using our 2-Dimensional Design Program you can see what your gemstones will look like in a different setting or what your ring would look like with different or additional gemstones. In years past, a jeweler or salesperson would hand draw a sketch on paper in an attempt to convey what the new jewelry might look like. Those hand-drawn sketches were acceptable when there was no other option, but now the new "sketch" is nearly a photograph of what the finished jewelry would look like.

Once the basic idea has been established, Peter designs the jewelry using our 3-Dimensional CAD (computer-aided design) program. Three-dimensional jewelry designing is very new to the jewelry industry. Few jewelers have taken on the challenge of learning this new option, but for those that have, it has opened up a world of new opportunities in designing. The precision and flexibility of three-dimensional designing allows us to design whatever you want. When we finish a design on the computer, we can print a "rendering" of the jewelry. The rendering is so close to aphotograph that some people think the jewelry has already been made! This allows you to approve the design or suggest changes before you commit to the final work being completed. |
The computerized carving mill is used hand-in-hand with three-dimensional designing. Once the jewelry design has been approved by you, we download it to the mill to begin the manufacturing process. In the old days, this process would start with the original being carved by hand. This, of course, would have been a time consuming process. Not only does the computerized mill carve the original faster, it also allows for better accuracy and offers more flexibility with a single design. Once the mill has carved the design into a special wax used for casting, we finish preparing the design so that it is ready for casting. The wax is then cast using lost wax casting techniques. After the design is cast, it is filed, sanded, polished and finished using traditional jewelers techniques. The end result is a fabulous piece of jewelry for you. |
